The beastly powered W8 Passat was a strange animal. Developed to compete with muscular luxury sedans such as the BMW 5-series, the W8 was a product of needing to fit eight cylinders in a space typically occupied by six. Despite its high compression ratio, it only produced a somewhat lackluster 271 bhp.
Combined with a porky curb weight of 3980 lbs, it wasn’t as exciting as one would expect.
