As we have said countless times, agricultural machinery is not our specialty; however, we do find the engineering behind it to be fascinating. A transmission for this application is completely different from what you would see in a road car, since the aim here is to provide high torque and steady low speed crawling.
Such is the case for this continuously variable transmission concept, which uses differential mechanism, planetary gears, and other intricate systems to have completely adjustable gear ratios.
The design depicted here is not yet used in any production vehicles, but it’s already patented in Austria.
