Watch this Chevrolet V8 build for land speed record runs being put to the test in the dyno.

This 260 cubic inch SB2Chevrolet V8 engine is supercharged, but instead of the typical roots blower mounted on top, it has a centrifugal supercharger located in front of it, with a small air to water intercooler right before the throttle body.

The unusually high redline and strangely small displacement may seem like a contradiction at first, but once we learn the engine constraints surrounding the class their team is competing in, it slowly begins to make sense.

Little by little, all of those seemingly random choices, like having one Lambda sensor per exhaust port, or mounting the supercharger at the front, start to come together. Eventually, it all makes sense.
