Granny shifting, not double clutching like you should.

The ever famous quote from Fast and Furious has spawned a myriad of memes, and has become a staple of gearhead humor.

For those that don’t remember, refer to the video below.

But, what is double clutching?

It’s simply clutching in, putting it in neutral, clutching out, putting it in gear, clutching in, rev matching, and clutching out.

Why should I do it?

This is not required for manual transmissions with synchros, but in most cases will make for smoother gear changes, and will extend the life of your transmission.

In older cars, or vehicles without synchros, it is likely that it will be absolutely necessary to double clutch.
