It does seem like a silly thing to do, but judging by the video the guy building the Nitro powered pencil sharpener, sure had fun.
So it looks like his friend found a Nitro engine RC car in the garbage, and this guy thought to turn it into a gas powered pencil sharpener.
He spent some time fixing the engine as the piston was seized, and the carburetor was dirty. Some may say it’s a stupid idea, but I say it’s a fun thing to pass the free time.
