This 1920’s steam tractor plows a field in true Rube Goldberg fashion.
While agricultural machinery is not our specialty, we can’t help but admire the craftsmanship and ingenuity behind the farm vehicles of the 1920’s era.
The engineering in this steam tractor is nothing short of overly complex, with exposed mechanisms, power take-offs, and all sorts of attachments and accessories.
The most interesting one is a plow that is neither towed nor pushed by the tractor,
it’s just dragged by a steel cable. While this may seem pointless, it actually serves the purpose of plowing very soft soil, since it doesn’t have the weight of the tractor on it.
