As gearheads, we often tend to focus on engines, yes, transmissions are equally important for performance, it doesn’t matter how much power your engine has, if you can’t transform it into speed and acceleration.
This NHRA gearbox is the kind of unit you would find in a Pro Stock class vehicle; it’s a sequential transmission, with straight cut gears to avoid performance losses. This kind of unit has a two-piece housing, since the internals have to be accessible for adjusting gear ratios between quarter mile runs.
