The Koenigsegg Regera has arrived, and it’s a game changer.
We’ve talked about the Regera before, and unlike most concept cars, its revolutionary technology is actually being transferred to the production version.
With 1500 horsepower on tap, this hypercar goes from zero to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds. It acomplishes such feat thanks to its unique powertrain, which has a non existent gearbox. Koenigsegg explains it best:
“Koenigsegg has developed a clutch-slip mechanism that uses the hydraulic coupling to convert torque at medium/high speeds during fast acceleration. This allows the combustion engine to gain revs and power, thereby giving the sensation of a traditional downshift with the associated aural enjoyment, even without the traditional gearbox.”
“Shift paddles remain on either side of the steering wheel. The left paddle is used to enhance the regenerative braking effect in recharging the battery pack. The right paddle is used to activate the hydraulic coupling’s ‘downshift’ operation.”
Undergoing over 3000 changes since last year’s concept, this hypercar is still arounf 1000 lbs lighter than the Bugatti Chiron, and while the top speed may be the Chiron’s specialty, the Koenigsegg Regera clocks in 258 mph as it’s maximum, which means it can still give the Bugatti a run for its money.
It is able to reach nearly 250 mph in just 20 seconds, or so claims Koenigsegg, and the whole automotive world is waiting to test it.
For some odd reason, the Koenigsegg Regera comes standard with Apple CarPlay.
