It may not be the largest engine we have ever seen, but 34 tons isn’t less impressive either. This big diesel Duvant 9VOS engine was used as a power generator, for Auteuil racecourse “hippodrome” in France.
This engine is a 9 V.O.S type, and it was built in 1962 by the Duvant company.
Only three engines were ever produced, each 11 feet tall by 18 feet long, and this beast consumes almost 92.5 gallons of diesel, every hour to generate 1600 horsepower. Pretty amazing that it still runs today, but anyway, it is mostly used as a tourist attraction now days.
