Texting and driving: Now we can stop it.
Meet the SMARTWheel, a brand new invention that promises to stop distracting behaviors at the wheel, mainly texting while driving among teenagers.
This novel device monitors the hand position on the steering wheel, detecting how many hands are on it and at what angle they are. Not only does it know when you’re reaching for the cell phone, it also records the moment you take your hands off the wheel for more than four seconds.
Not only that, it also can alert third parties such as parents via mobile app of the user’s distracting habits while driving.
Before we move on to the illustrative video, let’s think for a second, is this a viable solution for texting and driving, or is it just another patch, attempting to fix a bigger problem underneath?
With that reflection in mind, let’s look at the presentation video for this new technology.
