One of the most beloved names among enthusiasts whatever their favorite automaker is remain Shelby moniker, the name which was strongly bound to Mustangs and recently many other fords, one of the cars that Shelby designed from scratch was the Cobra Daytona Coupe with only six units between 1964 and 1965 where it’s believed that one of them is in Europe with a chassis number CSX2300, the car was built originally to compete with the likes of Ferraris of the GT Class.
The European one has an interesting story though, drivers Andre Simon and Jo Schlesser drove this coupe at the very tough Nurburgring race track. The car finished 3rd in the GT III category, and 12th overall. After the race, the white coupe was returned to Alan Mann Racing in England where it was repainted in the official Guardsman Blue metallic and white stripe of the 1965 Shelby American team.
What’s more, this exact version was owned by Carroll Shelby himself until 2000, when it was auctioned off by RM Auctions on on August 19, 2000 for no less than $4.4 million, probably an American record at the time.
