Koenigsegg is indeed a company that deals with supercars, and they have created some of the best supercars the world has ever seen, but they also work on developing new technology for everyday cars.

Koenigsegg’s branch Freevalve, is currently developing camless engines for the Chinese car maker Qoros. They stated in an interview that his plans with Qoros is to built a 1.6 liter engine that would produce 400 horses, and that it would be stronger than the 2.0 liter 375 horsepower engine Mercedes uses in it’s GLA 45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG.

Of course Koenigsegg didn’t reveal too much about the engine, but they said that they are working on it with the same principals they did on the Agera and the Regera, and their priority is to reduce power-robbing heat dissipation, which is a challenge on small engines. By reducing the bore and elongating the stroke of the piston, we are able to lessen the heat losses from the engine,” said Koenigsegg. “We’ve also used forged pistons, forged connecting rods, and higher quality valves that make engine as efficient as possible. These are more expensive parts, but will not be so much so in mass production.” Koenigsegg also says that adding Freevalve engine tech, will increase efficiency by a further 3% to 4% and even though they don’t say this directly, we think that this engine will be turbocharged just like the other engines. What’s exciting about this, is Koenigsegg’s potential to play with these engines, while we might never get the chance to drive a One:1, our future cars will most likely have a part of that technology in them.
