This radial Volkswagen beetle is proof lunacy sometimes gives glorious results.
You know that fine line between lunacy and brilliance?
Builder Mike Neiman, who owns a motorcycle shop in California, takes said line, drenches it in gasoline, sets it on fire, and proceeds to use it as a jumping rope.
The 220 horsepower 668 cubic inch radial engine bolted to the back of this vintage VW bug is a Continental W670-9A sourced from a 1941 M2 tank. The bore is 5.125 inches, and the stroke 4.625-inches, making for a massive displacement figure.
But the madness has barely started to unveil, as this vehicle isn’t propelled by the wheels, but by an actual propeller, using the 11 liter radial engine to power the prop.
The owner plans to take his mad creation to the Bonneville Salt Flats, and see how fast this contraption can go.
Watch below the radial Volkswagen beetle starting up. This is without the propeller.
