The “Dynacam engine”: an engineering oddity lost in time.

Throughout the history of engineering, innovation has taken many forms, from the revolutionary Wankel engines based on constant diameter shapes, to the inception of variable valve timing. Even outside the automotive field, research and development of engines is rampant, and it sometimes leads to things like the Dynacam

This axial design has its cylinders arranged in a hexagonal pattern, with pistons actuating a cam that serves as a “crankshaft”. This principle of operation has spawned a lot of other designs, like the Duke engines.
