Can you bring an old engine back to stock horsepower?
Simple answer: Yes.
Actual answer:
It’s not that easy, it depends on the engine’s condition, how well it has been maintained and serviced. An engine which has been abused and neglected will have worn out its internal components and journal surfaces. Little by little the friction eats away the mating and bearing surfaces, even with proper lubrication, some components still have a limited life span.
Still, a full service and fluids change should bring back some horsepower into your old engine, replacing spark plugs, checking timing and fuel delivery, as well as changing out oil, fuel, and, air filters.
