No exaggeration, this is hands down the best video we have ever seen. It shows exactly how the 3700 horsepower locomotive was built in Canada, and what makes us mad, is the fact that computerized automation and design has killed lots of the skill sets used in this video.
All the work that has been put to build this walking giant of steel, is just mesmerizing. To see the huge boiler plates being formed, molten iron being poured into molds, to see all those brave men building wooden bucks to come up with the actual shape of the engine, the massive connecting rods (drive rods) being forged by a press the size of a house, the engine being literally lowered onto its axles, it’s all so authentic that we have no words to describe it. I know, we are sugar coating the whole thing because these jobs were awful, and the risk of sudden death was there at any time, be that from the heat and the dust, or from the huge pieces of metal swinging around. Our guess is that this massive engine that has 3700 horsepower, and the necessary torque to move a whole planet, was built to move giant trains for decades, over the mountains in the western Canadian region.
